winter's more tolerable when you know it's almost over

Nick and I just got in from a nice, sunny walk around the block. It's cold out, but the walk has us both hopeful and anxious for spring. Only a few more weeks!

let them eat cake

Two weeks after my birthday, and the folks in my office surprised me with a cake! It sorta changed shape en route to the office, but it was delicious and HUGE! My cube was quite busy with greedy coworkers. I loved it and love their thoughtfulness. xoxo

thanks for giving a dog a home

Sarah Martin from Belle & Sebastian is one of the coolest indie rockers ever. She inspired one of the stories in my book, and more recently started a boutique with cool purses and bags and such. Well, I had a magic moment on my thirtieth birthday where I was searching the web and came across a dachshund lavender bag that she made and was selling on the internet. You know, one of those scented beanies you put in your dresser to make your drawer smell good. It arrived in the mail yesterday with a cool little postcard. Here's that lavender dachshund posing with the best dachshund ever.

second shift is nick

I have a new schedule at work, which means I now get home before four every day. It's like I have a whole other day after I leave work, though it also means I don't have as much time in the morning to pal around with Nicky. Still, we're adjusting, and have a new ritual of watching the prior night's Daily Show while sitting in the sunshine. It's lovely. I can't wait for the days to get longer and warmer so we can go on adventures around the neighborhood.

puppy bowled over

There's been a chair by the front window almost as long as Nick's been living here. It was placed by there so he could look outside, yet he never used it. Lately he has been getting into it, though, and it's really cute walking in the room and seeing him look outside at cars. Today it got up to 40, so he's been fascinated with snow falling off the roof. The little things. Especially Nick. :)
