building and maintaining our world

Summer began tonight! Went out to Royal Oak for dinner with the SEMI crew, to celebrate Randy's birthday, then went to Huntington Woods for an ice cream social that was more like a mini free-fair. It was great and we ran into a number of people we know, just congregating with a few hundred other strange, idle people. When I was younger I believed everyone had to keep moving. Now I understand that we can't all be moving and some of us just have to stand still: build community. Tonight was great and the newly-arrived Good Luck CD was the soundtrack. Bliss. I love my world and this feeling of belonging. It's what I've strived for.

that's the way love goes

I don't know...I'm kind of in a mushy, sentimental mode this morning. I heard Merle Haggard sing "That's the Way Love Goes" last night and I was floored. I dug through my records and discovered it was written by Lefty Frizzell and I have it on record by Willie. How'd that slip past me before? All I know is I heard it on the way to work and now it's stuck in my head in a very good way. Beautiful. Somebody hug me.

being lazy with my best friend

I went to breakfast and bought groceries first thing Saturday morning. Since then, I haven't left the house other than to take Nick for walks or put the garbage out. And it's been wonderful. Reminiscent of when I wasn't working and spent many days with Nicky on my lap, just being lazy. Fitting, since this is the one-year anniversary of my last day in bohemia.
